MUNICIPALITY AND CITY PERMITS.

Let's make it easy.

Trees are crucial to Victoria's beauty, health and are an invaluable asset to our lovely city. Tree protection bylaws within our community help protect, maintain and and rejuvenate our urban landscape.

In Victoria and the Southern Vancouver Island bylaws regulate the guidelines for cutting, pruning, altering, damaging, removing and replacing protected trees. It's important to note that in some municipalities - even protected trees that are completely dead or dying may require a permit

WHAT IS A CERTIFIED ARBORIST?

An arborist by definition is an individual who is trained in the art, science and safety of planting, caring for, and maintaining and removing individual trees. ISA arborist certification is an international, nongovernmental, voluntary process by which individuals can document their base of knowledge. Certified Arborists are individuals who have achieved a high level of knowledge in the art and science of tree care through experience in years and by passing a comprehensive examination developed by some of the world's leading experts on tree care.

ALWAYS CHECK THAT AN 'ARBORIST'S' OR TREE CLIMBER'S CREDENTIALS ARE CURRENT.  ID CARDS ARE AN INTEGRAL PART OF A TREE WORKER'S EQUIPMENT.

Certificates and qulifications

Most districts and municipalities require tree work to be done by an ISA Certified Arborist.

Remember to check credentials of anyone you choose to hire - as the homeowner alone is responsible for ensuring their contractor is current in his/her credentials, is insured, and meets bylaw standards.

WHy is this important?

“Tree removal and pruning is one of the most dangerous jobs in the country. 72 of the 129 tree work-related incidents that occurred in 2017 were fatal.”

-Occupational Safety and Health Administration 2018

Hiring an arborist is a decision that should not be taken lightly. Proper tree care is an investment that can lead to substantial returns. Well cared-for trees are attractive and can add considerable value to your property. Poorly maintained trees can be a significant liability for your home, family, and investment. Pruning or removing trees, especially large trees, can be dangerous work. Tree work should be done only by those trained and equipped to work safely in trees.

  • WOW Isaac and Evan are fantastic.

What an amazing job they did on our eucalyptus tree. It looks beautiful and is shaped perfectly. The canopy reduction is letting in more filtered light. We are very pleased. They are friendly, courteous, polite and did a 5star cleanup job. We would highly recommend Climbing Fox so please don’t hesitate to give us as a reference.

  • You have a very professional team!

I just want to say the guys did a fantastic job today. Hedge looks great. Also- the electric tools are so much quieter. I was doing Zoom meetings and was warning that there would be a lot of background noise on my side, and it was just so much quieter. Loved it! Kudos to you for investing in those tools! You have a very professional team!

  • We’d have no hesitation about recommending them to any of our friends.

Michael, Sarah, and the team just finished a big laurel hedge job between our house and the neighbour. When he came around to do the estimate, Michael took the time to listen to what we wanted, and explain the options. He gave us a clear and detailed estimate, with a breakdown to guide our sharing of costs. We are very pleased with the job they did – careful pruning and shaping, with an excellent clean up. The hedge was very over-grown in places, so we were especially impressed with the amount of hand clipping they did. (Much less damage to the branches that will support the regrowth.) It was nice having them around – a happy crew. We’d have no hesitation about recommending them to any of our friends.
