MUNICIPALITY AND CITY PERMITS.
Let's make it easy.
Trees are crucial to Victoria's beauty, health and are an invaluable asset to our lovely city. Tree protection bylaws within our community help protect, maintain and and rejuvenate our urban landscape.
In Victoria and the Southern Vancouver Island bylaws regulate the guidelines for cutting, pruning, altering, damaging, removing and replacing protected trees. It's important to note that in some municipalities - even protected trees that are completely dead or dying may require a permit.

WHAT IS A CERTIFIED ARBORIST?
An arborist by definition is an individual who is trained in the art, science and safety of planting, caring for, and maintaining and removing individual trees. ISA arborist certification is an international, nongovernmental, voluntary process by which individuals can document their base of knowledge. Certified Arborists are individuals who have achieved a high level of knowledge in the art and science of tree care through experience in years and by passing a comprehensive examination developed by some of the world's leading experts on tree care.
ALWAYS CHECK THAT AN 'ARBORIST'S' OR TREE CLIMBER'S CREDENTIALS ARE CURRENT. ID CARDS ARE AN INTEGRAL PART OF A TREE WORKER'S EQUIPMENT.

WHy is this important?
“Tree removal and pruning is one of the most dangerous jobs in the country. 72 of the 129 tree work-related incidents that occurred in 2017 were fatal.”
-Occupational Safety and Health Administration 2018
Hiring an arborist is a decision that should not be taken lightly. Proper tree care is an investment that can lead to substantial returns. Well cared-for trees are attractive and can add considerable value to your property. Poorly maintained trees can be a significant liability for your home, family, and investment. Pruning or removing trees, especially large trees, can be dangerous work. Tree work should be done only by those trained and equipped to work safely in trees.
